Worthwhile look after around 300 businesses across Norfolk. Almost none of them had arrived through the website.
Worthwhile Accountancy is a chartered practice in Mundford, near Thetford, working with sole traders, landlords, contractors and limited companies across the Brecks. It is the kind of firm where the accountant who files your year end is the one who answers the phone. Growth had always come from clients recommending them to a friend. The website was there, it had a blog, and it brought in almost nothing.
Three problems were feeding each other. Google was crawling 121 URLs nobody should ever read, mostly tag pages, date archives and FAQ fragments, and only two articles were ranking for anything at all. The pages meant to win work were the slowest on the site, taking 825 milliseconds to respond. And those pages were nearly empty: the sectors page ran to 32 words, the contact page to 86.

Most of it was three days of work in July, then a monthly rhythm.
We cut the sitemap back to pages that deserve to rank and set the rest to noindex, consolidated seven overlapping articles into their strongest version, and fixed the internal links pointing at dead URLs. Server caching brought response times from 825 milliseconds to under 200. The four CIS articles were linked into a proper cluster with a route through to the service page, and the thin pages were rewritten in the practice’s own voice rather than accountancy boilerplate. No links were bought or built. Every ranking on this page was earned by making the existing site legible to Google.
